It's amazing to me to see the same basic idea done by two very different authors and how they turn out. Take this book and The Royals
written by Kitty Kelley
. The latter reads a bit like a page from ONTD on the subject of the Windors: lies, damn lies and a sprinkling of the truth scattered around like the Prince of Monaco's baby mamas.
I wonder how many people Bedell Smith interviewed to get all this information, including random off-the-cuff anecdotes considering what a strong confidentiality contract royal employees have to sign. Things such as the Queen blowing her nose and showing the groom her mucousy tissue as evidence that the stables were too dry and dusty. Both awesome and gross.
I liked this book. More later.
